Our Eye Bank is specifically dedicated to eye donation and helping eliminate corneal blindness. We are the only full service eye bank in the Los Angeles area offering quality ocular tissue for transplant. Early referrals and conscientious care of patients by hospitals allow OneLegacy staff to quickly evaluate the patient’s ability to become an organ donor. Hospital and OneLegacy staff work together to provide emotional support to a family facing the loss of a loved one and guide them sensitively through end-of-life decisions, including the opportunity to donate.
In addition to calling OneLegacy in the event that a patient has suffered a major neurological injury and thus may be in a position to donate organs after death, hospitals also call OneLegacy within one hour after any death in order to preserve the opportunity for a family to donate tissue.

In accordance with UNOS organ allocation guidelines, OneLegacy offers donated organs to transplant centers in order of patient rankings on OPTN match runs. Transplant centers recover and transplant the organs into the patients in their care.
OneLegacy collaborates with 11 transplant centers in our seven-county donation service area.

We work closely with all Sheriff-Coroner / Medical Examiner offices within the OneLegacy federally designated Donation Service Area (DSA). The DSA includes the following counties:
All donor cases under the jurisdiction of the sheriff-coroner / medical examiner are reviewed prior to recovery to ensure the protection of forensic evidence. This collaboration to safeguard investigation findings also serves to maximize organ, eye and tissue donation.
Funeral homes play a valuable role in providing support to donor families following the gift of donation. The gift of donation has immense value, not only for the recipients, but also for donor families. The knowledge that their loved one has left a lasting legacy of hope and healing can provide comfort to donor families.
We work collaboratively with funeral homes within the communities we serve to provide a level of service that honors the donors and the families that place their trust in us. We appreciate that the donation process impacts your duties as funeral service professionals. Our desire is to better equip funeral homes to support families following the gift of donation.
