At OneLegacy, our mission is to significantly impact the UNOS waitlist, which comprises over a hundred thousand individuals in America, by facilitating life-saving transplants and uplifting donors and their families. Through our extensive network of community events, we actively raise awareness about the critical importance of organ donation. Similarly, our Patient Advocacy creates emotional connections with those awaiting transplantation. Rather than focusing solely on statistics, we cultivate a deep understanding of the individuals eagerly anticipating life-saving transplants. Patient Advocacy addresses the unique needs of individuals on the UNOS organ waiting list by providing a network of care, guidance, and informational resources. We are committed to empowering individuals on the waiting list, ensuring they receive the emotional and practical support they need as they navigate the path towards a life-saving transplant. Your Neighbors in Need OneLegacy serves seven counties throughout Southern California, here are some of the people waiting in your neighborhoods. Jason Brown Waiting for a Kidney Transplant Jason Brown × Kidney transplant candidate Los Angeles County Jason Brown was born and raised in Pasadena, CA. Jason earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA). Before joining the Mayor’s Office of Gang Reduction and Youth Development as a Regional Program Coordinator he was a long time Pasadena district employee managing LEARNS and Freedom School after school enrichment/literacy program. Long before Jason’s career in Government Jason had a career as a singer/ songwriter. At the young age of 18 Jason received a distribution deal with Capital records. He later had music on iTunes with his 2nd group “Locke”. Later in his music career he worked with Sean “Diddy” Combs and Tour on the BAD BOY TOUR as a background singer for Faith Evans. He is currently waiting for a kidney transplant. Share Story Judith Jiménez Waiting for a Kidney Transplant Judith Jiménez × Former OneLegacy Ambassador, kidney transplant candidate San Bernardino County Judith is a two time kidney recipient, and she is currently on dialysis and on the waiting list for a third kidney transplant. She volunteered her time as a OneLegacy Embajadora for more than 7 years. During her time as a volunteer, Judith met wonderful people with a great sense of compassion, including donor families, living donors, and recipients. Listening to their stories has made her a better person and helped her appreciate life and live it to the fullest. Thanks to her two kidney transplants, Judith was able to see her son grow up and become a responsible adult, and she is forever grateful to her donors and their families. As a OneLegacy Embajadora, Judith inspired the Hispanic community about the importance of organ, eye and tissue donation and encouraged those she met to register as donors. Share Story Anna Cho Waiting for a Kidney Transplant Anna Cho × OneLegacy Ambassador Orange County Anna Cho is a single mom of twin boys and a kidney transplant candidate. When she was 31, she was diagnosed with Takayasu arteritis, a rare autoimmune disease. This disease attacks the kidneys first, and she lost one of her kidneys as a result. Anna has been on dialysis for several years. She goes 3 days a week for hemodialysis. She looks forward to receiving a kidney transplant soon, so she can go back to do fun activities with her children, like riding bikes and playing ball. She has been waiting for over 8 years now. In the past, Anna has volunteered her time as a OneLegacy Ambassador. Share Story Jose Alvarez Waiting a Liver Transplant Jose Luis Alvarez × Waiting a Liver Transplant Los Angeles County Jose Luis Alvarez is a liver transplant candidate and has been waiting for his lifesaving transplant for more than a year. He suffers from cirrhosis and after a near death experience, he swore off alcohol and started a healthy life journey. He is currently listed for a liver transplant at UCLA Share Story Get Involved How To Participate 1. Choose who you want your champion to be – Yourself or a loved one 2. Post story on social media platforms to create awareness 4. Host events and distribute educational materials to coworkers, friends, families and neighbors 5. Fahey Living Donation Information Did you know that a living donor can save someone waiting for a kidney or liver? A mother, neighbor, teacher or coworker may be a lifesaving match! Learn more about living donation through some of the amazing organizations below: Living donors do not have to be related to their recipients. On average, 1 in 4 living donors are not biologically related to the recipient. In Directed donation, the living donor names a specific person to receive the transplant. More than 100,000 people are waiting for a lifesaving organ.
